Widespread bleaching in the One Tree Island lagoon (Southern Great Barrier Reef) during record-breaking temperatures in 2020

چکیده
The global marine environment has been impacted significantly by climate change. Ocean temperatures are rising, and the frequency, duration intensity of heatwaves increasing, particularly affecting coral reefs. Coral bleaching events becoming more common, with less recovery time between events. Anomalous at start 2020 caused widespread across Great Barrier Reef (GBR), extending to southern, previously affected reefs such as One Tree Island. Here, nine video transects were conducted Island, in Capricorn Bunker Group, analysed for community composition diversity, extent taxa. Average live hard cover area was 11.62%, almost half this identified severely bleached. This event is concerning it occurred an considered a potential refuge corals associated fauna from risks warming. Due impacts COVID-19 during 2020, report provides one potentially few monitoring efforts bleaching.

Atsr Maps Coral Bleaching on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef
The Australian Great Barrier Reef (GBR) experienced its most intensive and extensive coral bleaching event on record in early 1998 [1]. This period also saw extensive damage to other reefs around the globe. There is concern among environmental scientists and GBR-based industries, especially tourism, that widespread death and bleaching of corals caused by extremely high temperatures during 1997-...
متن کاملDNA barcoding the fishes of Lizard Island (Great Barrier Reef)
To date the global initiative to barcode all fishes, FISH-BOL, has delivered barcodes for approximately 14,400 of the 30,000 fish species; there is still much to do to attain its ultimate goal of barcoding all the world’s fishes. One strategy to overcome local gaps is to initiate short but intensive efforts to collect and barcode as many species as possible from a small region – a barcode ‘blit...
متن کاملThe Semantic Reef: Managing Complex Knowledge to Predict Coral Bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef
A semantically driven Virtual Organisation (VO) model for predicting important events for coral reefs is presented – the Semantic Reef. The model is an application of a Semantic Grid that encapsulates services and resources to produce a complex higher-level knowledge base in order to predict coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef. The goal is to enable the synergistic interplay between diffe...
متن کاملIn the other 90%: phytoplankton responses to enhanced nutrient availability in the Great Barrier Reef Lagoon.
Our view of how water quality effects ecosystems of the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) is largely framed by observed or expected responses of large benthic organisms (corals, algae, seagrasses) to enhanced levels of dissolved nutrients, sediments and other pollutants in reef waters. In the case of nutrients, however, benthic organisms and communities are largely responding to materials which have cyc...

UNLABELLED In a survey of the polychaetes of the Lizard Island region, sixteen new species of terebellids, plus one previously described species, were found from material collected during the two week long Lizard Island Taxonomic Workshop in 2013, along with material collected from previous projects carried out at Lizard Island. This included the CReefs Project (http://www. AIMS gov.au/creefs...
